UEI College in Oceanside Honored with CAPPS Community Service Award for Exceptional Community Commitment

UEI College in Oceanside is proud to announce that the school was selected as the 3rd Place winner of the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) 2025 Excellence in Community Service Award. This prestigious recognition highlights UEI College outstanding dedication to serving the Oceanside community through innovative, student-led service programs that address critical local needs.

The CAPPS Excellence in Community Service Awards, established in 2016, celebrate member schools that demonstrate exceptional commitment to their communities through service initiatives, service learning, and civic engagement. UEI College in Oceanside will be formally honored at the CAPPS Legislative Policy Conference in April 2025, where the campus will receive a plaque and crystal award and present a video showcasing its impactful community efforts throughout 2024.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from CAPPS,” said Jaclyn Marquez, Campus President of UEI College in Oceanside. “Our community service programs embody our mission to not only prepare students for successful careers but also empower them to create a meaningful difference in their communities. This award is a testament to the dedication of our students, faculty, and staff, as well as the strength of our partnerships with local organizations.”

UEI College in Oceanside has made a significant impact through a variety of initiatives designed to support vulnerable populations, low-income families, and individuals lacking access to essential services. These initiatives include:

  • Community Vaccine Clinic: Providing free flu shots, COVID-19 vaccines, and health screenings to hundreds of community members, promoting wellness and disease prevention.
  • Community Car Care Event: An annual event offering free 14-point vehicle inspections to dozens of residents, enhancing road safety and ensuring reliable transportation (see the news story about the event YouTube).
  • Women’s Health & Wellness Event: Delivering free dental exams, vaccinations, and health education to underserved women, emphasizing the importance of preventive care.

“These programs are seamlessly integrated into UEI College’s academic offerings, providing hands-on, service-learning opportunities for students,” Marquez said. “Medical Assistant students gain real-world patient care experience by conducting health screenings, while Automotive Technician students apply their technical skills during vehicle inspections, and Dental Assistant students gained patient experience by assisting with free cleanings and exams. This approach not only benefits the community but also equips students with career-ready skills and confidence.”

“By connecting our students’ education to tangible community impact, we’re fostering a culture of service and responsibility,” Marquez added. “These efforts reduce financial burdens, promote public health, and contribute to a stronger, more resilient Oceanside.”

UEI College’s ongoing commitment to the Oceanside community is supported by institutional resources, dedicated staff and instructors, and partnerships with local nonprofits and organizations. The CAPPS award underscores the campus’s role as a vital community partner and its success in creating lasting, measurable benefits for the Oceanside community.
