Seanise Maldon’s life was turned upside down in the best way when she found out as a first-time mom she was expecting twins.
“It changed a lot for me,” she said. “It was crazy and I was not expecting it. Of course, my first thought was ‘What am I going to do with twins?’ It made me look at things differently now that I have two little girls. Now I have two kids to live for so I can’t just be out here doing stuff.”
Before kids, Seanise wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life. She had never had any bad experiences with school but it never caught her interest. What she really wanted to do was work in the medical field. United Education Institute (UEI) in Morrow gave her that opportunity.
“I had a friend going to UEI who told me about it,” Seanise said. “I took a tour but didn’t sign up right away. The school followed up to see if I was still interested. One day I just decided to stop procrastinating and do what I need to do. It felt good to step on campus. Everyone was nice and welcoming.”
Seanise chose the Medical Assisting program. Some day she dreams of becoming a pediatrician, but medical assisting felt like a good first step.
“I just love kids,” she said. “I love seeing them happy. When they are sick, they are down but when they get better they can be happy. I just like to see them smile.”

Seanise said the first few weeks took some getting used to, but it didn’t take long to start to love the program.
“I liked getting to know everybody and learning new things and being able to be hands on with stuff,” she said. “The only thing that had me scared was hearing we had to draw each other’s blood. I wasn’t messing with that. I didn’t want anyone poking me but when it came time to do it, it didn’t even hurt. I just had to stop being scared!”
As Seanise worked her way through the program, each new course confirmed that the medical field was a good fit for her. She enjoyed going to class each day, learning new skills.
“The program was very hands-on,” she said. “I just can’t wait to jump into the career field.”
She kept her kids in mind. Their love kept her focused and that focus paid off in school.
“Becoming a mom and now going back to school, it’s a big change in my life,” she said. “Everything is way better than what it was. I feel like my kids really put me on a different path now. I want to give them a good future. I want to further my career. I want my girls to know it’s ok to ask for help and I want them to be respectful no matter what. Keep your head high no matter the situation. Never stop.”
